Total Recruit are delighted to be recruiting for a key permanent position on behalf of a fantastic client based in Redhill, Surrey.
As a System Design Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in working alongside engineering and project teams to produce electrical and mechanical drawings.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems and assemblies for specialist communications and electronic equipment.
- Produce detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical drawings in accordance with relevant engineering standards.
- Develop and maintain engineering designs using BS 8888:2017 and applicable industry standards.
- Create and manage STEP files and 3D CAD data to support mechanical and electrical system integration.
- Consider EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) requirements throughout the design process, ensuring systems meet relevant standards and regulatory requirements.
- Apply knowledge of Low Voltage Directive (LVD) requirements to electrical system and equipment design.
- Work closely with mechanical, electronics, systems and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical, compliant and suitable for production.
- Carry out design reviews, technical assessments and design verification activities, identifying and resolving issues before manufacture.
- Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation, drawings, specifications and bills of materials.
- Support the build, testing, commissioning and installation of systems, providing engineering support and resolving technical issues.
- Liaise with suppliers and customers where required to understand technical requirements and develop appropriate engineering solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost.
Qualifications
- A minimum qualification HND/HNC, apprenticeship, or equivalent, along with proven knowledge of and adherence to EU directives electrical safety and compliance.
Skills & Experience
- A minimum of five years of experience in electrical / systems design desirable.
- Experience in electrical engineering regulatory environment for electrical installations including BS7671 wiring regulations (18th edition) and the Electricity at Work Act is advantageous.
- Proficient in the use of recognised drawing standards, including Knowledge of BS8888 2017.
- Familiarity with relevant technical standards is required for both EMC and LVD.
- Ability to develop design concepts from first principles with proven engineering design skills and strong knowledge of manufacturing techniques and material properties..
- Knowledge of electrical enclosure (control panels and 19” racks) manufacturing techniques.
- Ability to produce high quality drawings (2D and 3D) using a CAD tool of choice (candidate can assist in the process of deciding the software The Business should adopt) to ISO standards.
- Production of STEP files for transfer to customer/clients as required.
- Ability to take a rough mechanical design and turn into a refined drawing outputs.
- Ability to produce Visio drawings as required to assist with other company needs.
- Experienced user of a CAD package such as AutoCAD. Ideally experience of an Electrical CAD package e.g. SEE Electrical / ETAP.
- Minimum four years’ experience in production of electronic and mechanical drawings at a significant quantity.
- Ability to work hard, show tenacity, proactively work on own initiative, solve problems using own judgement, meet tight deadlines and balance priorities to achieve results.
- Must hold, or have the ability to achieve SC Security Clearance.
- Experienced in standard office applications.
- The ability to produce a high standard of work which meets or exceeds customer’s requirements.
- Experience in a food manufacturing environment is an advantage, but not essential.
- Can do/problem solving mentality.
- Significant judgement is required to manage the internal cross-boundary relationships to ensure positive outcomes achieved.
- Role is self-sufficient and self-monitored.
- Judgement required to ensure correct priority level is attached to work commitments.
